The Three Most
Popular Business Fields During Pandemic
The emergence of Covid-19 has destroyed everything. It
leads to numerous problems in the political, economic, and social sectors. In
the economy, pandemic causes a significant derivation of GDP. Since it
appeared, people's mobilization became very limited. Thus, there are a handful of
works delayed; an abundance of businesses turned into bankruptcy. As a result,
employees enforced to leave their jobs for the lack of necessity of the
companies. Rapoza (2020) mentioned that the forecasts of economic growth until
mid-March declined significantly. There was a contraction of Global GDP by
around 5% that happened quickly. After the limitation of the world's economic
activities, the number of unemployed people also rose rapidly. Therefore, the
financial condition of the people turns worse and worse from time to time.
Apparently, during this chaotic situation, there are still some ways for people
to get themselves out of this economic difficulty. Even though there are lots
of businesses being closed due to the pandemic policies, opening new ones at
this moment is also not an unwise choice as long as it is along with thorough
consideration and calculation. These are the three most popular business fields
during a pandemic; mask production, hand sanitizer production, and food
delivery.
Firstly, maks production is one of the most promising
fields to open a new business during this pandemic. It has a big possibility to
make a great benefit as masks become one of the most needed stuff recently. The
demand for personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, has risen to
impressive levels since the beginning of the pandemic. It is forecasted by the
United Nations that the demand for surgical masks alone to be around 2.4
billion in 2020 (Unicef, 2020). This field is not only for massive productions
that are usually done by big companies but also for regular people who want to
make it a home business with a smaller amount of products. Hufford (2020)
asserted that more companies are trying to involve in the mask-making business
to support medical workers in confronting the coronavirus pandemic. Recent data
from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (2020) also shows the same
correlation. The number of masks producers jumped sharply up to 707.69 %. Previously, there were only 26
industries, and recently became 210 industries (Desideria, 2020). Even though
there are a lot of new businesses in this field, substantial demand for masks
from society will still make good sales. It is because there is a multitude of
variants of masks needed by the particular necessity of people related to the
functions, prices, and even the styles of it; thus, there will be only a tiny
possibility that it will not sell out. Therefore, not only fulfilling the
society's needs during this pandemic time, but mask production also can be a
brilliant alternative to lift the economic condition of the people precisely
for those who lost their job due to this pandemic situation.
Secondly, hand
sanitizer production becomes another most popular business field during this
pandemic. The demand for hand sanitizer relatively goes the same way as masks
since hand sanitizer is one of the cleaning equipment that is severely needed
by people in recent times. Reporting based on the selling data of Sirclo, an
e-commerce company, the highest raising happened to the selling of hand
sanitizer that reached 531% in February this year (Jati, 2020). Using hand
sanitizer is considered more practical than using soap to clean our hands.
Thus, in some cases, either at homes or public places, people prefer to provide
hand sanitizer as their cleaning stuff. Therefore, the demand for hand
sanitizer in society rose quickly.
Desideria (2020) reported that hand sanitizer producers' numbers also
jumped sharply as well as masks' from only 45 producers to 475 producers,
meaning it increased up to 995% from the previous number. These producers
include both big companies and home businesses. By that, we can see that hand
sanitizer production is a pretty wise choice to open a new business during this
pandemic time not only to support our financial condition but also to help the
society fill their necessity as well.
Thirdly, food delivery is also one of the top business
fields during this pandemic. Due to the medical policies responding to the
pandemic handling, activities of people
became much more limited. Thus, people cannot have any food they usually buy
from certain places every time they want as previous times. For that, food
delivery is considered a great idea
to help people to get their food without offending the policies. Since the
outbreak of covid-19, the demand for food delivery has been surging. Delivery
services such as Deliveroo, JustEat, Postmates, and UberEats introduced
contactless delivery as a response to eliminate the risk of the virus spreading
between customer and driver (Research and Markets, 2020). The fact that food is
one of the human's chief needs makes business in this field give us more
possibility to be successful along with the high demand for delivery from
society. Fraser (2020) reported that food delivery businesses are seeing
elevated demand for their service. Food delivery services such as CB Eats and
Skip the Dishes have seen their business increase since mid-March in Cape
Breton. DKSH (2020) also mentioned that there was a 20% increase in spending on
food delivery during January in China when the outbreak of coronavirus. DJ.com
sales jumped 215% to almost 15,000 tons
for ten days as the people were quarantined at home. Food delivery seems very vital
during this time; thus, opening a new business in this field will not give us a
big possibility to be failed. Hence, by that, not only the service providers
will get the benefit for their finance, but they also will help those who have
difficulties accessing food services because of the policies during this time.
In brief, masks production, hand sanitizer production,
and food delivery become the top three business fields during this pandemic.
These fields are estimated to have a tinier number of failure possibilities
since the demands keep increasing in the latest months. If unemployed people
try to open businesses in these fields, sooner or later it will help them to
get out of economic difficulties as well as support society's life while
fighting coronavirus. The number of unemployed people will go down as either
they open a business or become employees of the new business industry. The
point is that they will start making money again so that their financial
condition will be better. Besides, they also contribute to fulfilling society's
needs for masks, hand sanitizers, and food delivery services. Branson (2019)
said that business opportunities are like buses, there is always another one
coming. Some businesses must have shattered because of the pandemic, yet the
new ones may also release at the same time that is along with mature consideration
and calculation to read the market.
